Since the iconic monorail stopped operating and renovations started inside the Oasis Shopping Centre, and roadworks nearby; the once thriving boutiques in Broadbeach have their small business owners very worried. “We are all worried,” one shop owner says, “We’re positive things will pick up again after the renovations finish in April, but some of us may not survive.”
In her Chic boutique on level one in the Oasis Shopping Centre, Dawn – owner of L’avant Garbe, has worked in the fashion industry for over forty years. “I am trying to do whatever it takes to get through” She says, hanging the trendy white dresses on the black and white sale rack, “I’ve got fifty to sixty per cent off these items, and new stock coming in every week, but there’s just nobody around.”
Absent from many of the larger chain fashion retailers, the personable experience that you receive from Dawn at L’avant Garbe is friendly and upbeat – she is a genius at fitting you to your body shape and occasion. She has clothing, shoes and accessories all very reasonably priced. I feel happy and relaxed after my shopping adventure, and I must say it was worth going through a couple of very small detours to share this experience, also had three hours of free parking, so did my groceries at the same time.
